On Repeat

HIGHLANDS RANCH – Kristine Franklin (Westminster, CO) is no stranger to hoisting a trophy, and today she was victorious again by defending her CGA Senior Match Play title. After three grueling days during a Colorado heat wave, Franklin took on Robin Krapfl (Peoria, AZ) in the final match.

Franklin took a commanding lead out of the gate. At the turn, Franklin was already four up in the match and wasn’t letting go, ending the match on the 15th hole, 5 & 4.

“It always feels good to win this event, because it is such a long week, and you just want something to drop, you have to focus shot by shot, not by match. When you get to the end, it feels good to be done,” said Franklin.

Not only will Franklin celebrate her victory, but on Tuesday, she and her husband celebrated 30 years of marriage. “It’s funny because we didn’t remember our anniversary until the 7th hole on Tuesday,” laughed Franklin. “My favorite moments this week are when my husband/caddie sets me up and I execute the shot perfectly, the excitement on his face makes it all worthwhile.”

So, what is next for the defending champion? Franklin has her eyes set on the CGA Mid-Amateur Stroke Play Championship at Eisenhower Golf Club. “Eisenhower is such a great course and venue. Just need to tighten up some things in my game since match play can be more forgiving and this will be stroke play,” said Franklin.

For Franklin, this is her 12th CGA Championship title, 8th Senior Women’s title, and 4th title in this championship.

Net Match Play

In the final two net match play brackets, Taylor Bridges (Denver, CO) faced Karen Chase (Littleton, CO) for the 1st flight title, while Trish Swanson (Arvada, CO) took on Cindy Ortega (Denver, CO) for the 2nd flight title.

The match between Swanson and Ortega was a battle with one player going up and then the other countering to square the match. It wasn’t until hole 16, when Swanson went one up and then two up on the final hole to win the match.

In the 1st flight match, Chase went two up in the first two holes, but Bridges came back to tie the match by hole 4. Similar to Wimbledon, the match was a game of volley back and forth until the home stretch. Bridges was one up going into hole 16, but then Chase took off, winning the last three holes to win two up.

Congratulations to the two CGA Senior Women’s Net Play Champions – Trish Swanson (2nd Flight Champion) and Karen Chase (1st Flight Champion)!
