Several PGA Tour event winners and numerous former champions will tee it up this week when the Inspirato Colorado Senior Open is held for the 24th time.

The event — with a record purse of $100,000, up $10,000 from last year — will run Wednesday through Friday at Green Valley Ranch Golf Club in northeast Denver.

Among those entered who have won on the PGA Tour are former University of Colorado golfer Jonathan Kaye, who’s captured two Tour titles and two Colorado Open championships; Gary Hallberg of Longmont, who owns three PGA Tour victories; defending CSO champion Guy Boros, who won the 1996 Greater Vancouver Open; and Trevor Dodds, champ at the 1998 Greater Greensboro Chrysler Classic.

Other Tour veterans in the field are Skip Kendall, Jeff Brehaut, Jerry Smith and Bob May, who perhaps most notably lost in a playoff to Tiger Woods at the 2000 PGA Championship.

Among the past CSO champs in the field this week are two-time winners Harry Rudolph and Greg Bruckner; Coloradans Doug Rohrbaugh, Dave Arbuckle and Mike Zaremba; and Britt Pavelonis, Ron Schroeder and Boros.

Also planning to compete are former Broncos and Steelers quarterback Tommy Maddox; Matt Schalk, winner of last year’s national Senior PGA Professional Championship;  Scott Petersen, a past champ in the Colorado Open; and former U.S. Sen. Mark Udall.

Meanwhile, not in the field this year is Jon Lindstrom, the low amateur in four of the last five CSOs. He’s headed to Truckee, Calif., for the U.S. Senior Amateur, which starts on Saturday.

The winner — or low professional — at GVR on Friday will earn $20,000, the most in CSO history. The field will be cut to the low 50 and ties after round 2.

Also taking place this week is another tournament with a $100,000 purse — the Sinclair Rocky Mountain Open at Tiara Rado Golf Course in Grand Junction. The 54-hole event runs Thursday through Saturday.

Among those entered in the championship are former PGA Tour card holder Jim Knous, and former CGA Players of the Year AJ Ott, Zahkai Brown,  Derek Fribbs and Chris Thayer. Former University of Colorado head football coach Rick Neuheisel is one of the amateurs in the field.
