Wrapping Things Up

Colorado native Griffin Barela posts his 2nd top-6 showing in the last 3 weeks on PGA Tour Americas; Fort Collins’ Dillon Stewart narrowly misses earning 2026 Korn Ferry Tour card via season-long points

By Gary Baines – 9/28/2025

Lakewood native Griffin Barela finished the PGA Tour Americas season on a high note in September.

The 2021 CGA Amateur champion tied for sixth on Sunday in the season-ending Fortinet Cup Championship in Surrey, B.C. in Canada. And that comes on the heels of two other strong September showings on the tour as he finished fifth and 15th the previous two weeks.

Barela’s final three rounds of the PGA Tour Americas season were 65-64-66 as he finished the Fortinet Championship with a 15-under-par total, which left him six strokes behind champion Jay Card III. Over those final three rounds, Barela posted two eagles, 13 birdies and two bogeys.

This week wrapped up the Americas season for the three players from Colorado who regularly played on the tour in 2025. Dillon Stewart of Fort Collins, who won a PGA Tour Americas event in July, narrowly missed earning his Korn Ferry Tour card for 2026 as he finished 12th on the season-long points list, with the top 10 landing KFT spots. But Stewart’s points will make him exempt into the second stage of PGA Tour qualifying, a process that eventually rewards top performers with PGA Tour or Korn Ferry Tour status.

Jake Staiano of Englewood ended up 34th on the points list, while Barela was 38th. Former Colorado School of Mines golfer George Markham checked in at No. 50.
