Colorado native, former DU coach and current Kansas coach Lindsay Kuhle among most respected coaches in women’s golf, according to survey

Lindsay (Hulwick) Kuhle no longer plies her trade in Colorado — aside from a tournament or some recruiting here or there — and that may very well be the Centennial State’s loss.
Kuhle has been the University of Kansas’ women’s golf head coach since 2021 after growing up in Colorado, graduating from Heritage High School, winning the 2005 CGA Women’s Stroke Play title and serving as a University of Denver assistant coach/associate head coach from 2005-12 and DU’s head coach from 2013-21.
With Kuhle having so many roots in Colorado, it was interesting earlier this month to see a story Golfweek published based on a survey of college golf coaches. Specifically, Golfweek sent questionnaires to every NCAA Div. I men’s and women’s college golf coach, who were granted anonymity with their responses. One question asked was who are the best coaches in women’s college golf, with recipients listing their top five in order.
And Kuhle not only made the top 25, but she checked in at No. 13. That’s pretty heady company, all things considered. For the record, the top 13 were Anne Walker (Stanford), Dan Brooks (Duke), Derek Radley (Oregon), Emily Fletcher (Northwestern), Shauna Estes-Taylor (Arkansas), Kim Lewellen (Wake Forest), Laura Ianello (Texas), Amy Bond (Florida State), Kalen Anderson (South Carolina), Justin Silverstein (USC), Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll (Michigan State), Kory Henkes (Mississippi) and Kuhle (Kansas).
The Littleton native has built KU to the point that last spring marked the first time Kuhle had qualified a full team for the NCAA national championships. That accomplishment came in the wake of Kansas winning an NCAA regional title for the first time, which is no small feat. It marked just the third time in program history that the KU women have qualified a full team for the NCAA golf nationals, with the previous occasions being in 1990 and 2014. This time around, the Jayhawks finished 21st at nationals.
Since Kuhle took the KU helm in 2021, the Jayhawks have captured eight team titles, including one this season, plus eight individual victories. During Kuhle’s seasons as DU’s head coach, the Pioneers notched 11 team titles and 10 individual victories. When she was a DU assistant under Sammie Chergo, the Pioneers finished fifth (2009) and sixth (2008) in the women’s NCAA national championships.
By the way, Golfweek also did the same survey for men’s golf, and another KU golf coach with strong connections to Colorado made the grade. Kansas’ Jamie Bermel, the head coach at Colorado State from 1999 to 2012, was No. 24 in the men’s survey.
