Colorado Golf Hall of Famer Kim Eaton, part-time Coloradan Marilyn Hardy advance to round of 32 at U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur
By Gary Baines – 9/13/2021
The two remaining competitors in the U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur who have strong Colorado connections earned berths into the match play round of 32 on Sunday, but in much different ways.
Colorado Golf Hall of Famer Kim Eaton, four times a quarterfinalist in this championship, trailed after 16 holes of her round-of-64 match in Point Clear, Ala. But she won both the 17th and 18th holes with pars to prevail 1 up over Pam Prescott of Piedmont, S.C.
When Eaton won the 18th, it was her first lead in the match since after the fourth hole. She was 6 over par for the match but went even par for her last eight holes.
Meanwhile, Hardy, who’s also gone to the quarterfinals in this event, never trailed in her round-of-64 match on Sunday. The 2020 CGA Women’s Senior Stroke Play champ was 4 up through eight holes and went on to win 5 and 4 over Brenda Kuehn of Asheville, N.C. Hardy was 2 over par for the 14 holes of the match.
Both the round of 32 and the round of 16 will be contested on Monday.
In the round of 32, Eaton will face fourth-seeded Susan Cohn of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., while Hardy will take on seven-time USGA champion Ellen Port, of St. Louis, Mo.
Sue Wooster of Australia, winner of the 2021 CGA Women’s Senior Match Play and twice the national runner-up in this event, lost in the round of 64 3 and 2 to Louella Kanew of Palm Beach, Fla.
