On a weekend many local tour players were in contention, Coloradan Davis Bryant posts his first DP World top-10
By Gary Baines – 6/29/2025
Perhaps it was appropriate that on the Sunday that Colorado was one of the centers of the golf world as The Broadmoor hosted the U.S. Senior Open, several players with strong connections to the Centennial State were in contention for tour titles elsewhere.
As it turned out, none of the locals won, but they were very much in the thick of things for a while:
— Davis Bryant of Aurora, last year’s Inspirato Colorado Open winner, posted the best finish of his rookie season on the DP World Tour, tying for 10th on Sunday in the Italian Open in Monte Argentario.
The former CGA Les Fowler Player of the Year went 71-67-67-68 for a 7-under-par total, which left him seven strokes behind champion Adrien Saddier. Bryant made 18 birdies over the four days. He earned 43,503 euros (about $50,992).
Bryant’s previous best showing on the DP World Tour was a 23rd place, though he’s posted a fourth and a sixth place on the HotelPlanner Tour, the European-based equivalent of the Korn Ferry Tour in the U.S.

— Denver native Mark Hubbard shared second place in the PGA Tour’s Rocket Classic in Detroit going into the final round, but finished 13th at 18 under par after carding a 1-under 71 on Sunday.
Competing in his 250th PGA Tour start, the Colorado Academy graduate ended up four strokes behind winner Aldrich Potgieter on a packed leaderboard. It was Hubbard’s fifth top-15 finish of the season on the PGA Tour, and he earned $172,000 this time around.

— Colorado Golf Hall of Famer Jennifer Kupcho, who won the Dow Championship LPGA Tour team event in 2022 with Lizette Salas, teamed up with former ACC and Solheim Cup rival Leona Maguire in this year’s edition in Midland, Mich. But after leading at the midway point of the tournament, Kupcho and Maguire dropped back, ending up 18th on Sunday.
This week, Kupcho and Maguire went 67 (alternate shot), 60 (best ball), 72 (alternate shot) and 68 (best ball) to post a 13-under-par total. South Koreans Jin Hee Im and Somi Lee won the tournament in a playoff after being 20 under in regulation.
Kupcho, a winner earlier this month on the LPGA Tour, and Maguire made $15,434 each.

— Former Air Force Academy golfer Tom Whitney closed with an 8-under-par 63 to place 11th on Sunday at the Korn Ferry Tour’s Memorial Health Championship in Springfield, Ill.
Whitney carded three straight rounds of 67 before adding the 63, and finished at 20 under par in the final KFT event before The Ascendant presented by Blue takes place July 10-13 at TPC Colorado in Berthoud. Austin Smotherman won in Illinois at 25 under.
The showing was worth $20,630 for Whitney.
