Former Aspen resident Justin Leonard runner-up in a senior major, Fort Collins’ Dillon Stewart notches another top-10 on PGA Tour Americas, and Wyndham Clark stays hot on PGA Tour

On a Sunday when one of the biggest annual golf tournaments in Colorado concluded — with Basalt native Jim Knous winning the Inspirato Colorado Open in a playoff — a few other players with significant ties to the Centennial State made some noise of their own:
— Justin Leonard, who lived in Aspen from 2015-22, posted his best finish in a senior major by tying for second at the ISPS HANDA Senior Open in Berkshire, England.
The 1997 British Open champion, who picked up his first PGA Tour Champions win earlier this year, ended up three strokes back of champion Padraig Harrington, who also won the U.S. Senior Open a month ago at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs.
While Harrington (67-65-65-67) checked in at 16 under par to win his third senior major to go along with his three open-age majors, Leonard also posted four straight rounds in the 60s. He went 69-65-65-68 to check in at 13 under, tying with Thomas Bjorn. SCORES
— Dillon Stewart of Fort Collins continued his red-hot play on PGA Tour Americas as he tied for fifth place at the Commissionaires Ottawa Open in Canada. In his three PGA Tour Americas starts, the former CGA Amateur champion has placed ninth, first and fifth.
This time around, the 2024 Sinclair Rocky Mountain Open champion went 69-67-63-67 for a 22-under-par total, which left him four strokes behind champion Brett White, who closed with a 59 and won in a three-man playoff.
The showing was worth $8,213 to Stewart, who stands sixth in the season-long points standings despite having played in only three PGA Tour Americas events. SCORES
— Denver native Wyndham Clark continued his recent strong play on the PGA Tour by tying for 12th place in the 3M Open in Blaine, Minn.
In his last three PGA Tour events, the Colorado Golf Hall of Famer has finished 11th in the Genesis Scottish Open, fourth in the British Open and 12th at the 3M Open. This after placing in the top 12 only once previously this year.
At the 3M, Clark made two eagles on Sunday and three for the week. He carded rounds of 67-65-67-68 for a 17-under-par total as Kurt Kitayama won at 23 under.
Clark has climbed into the top 50 in the FedExCup season-long points standings, at 48th place. SCORES
