Caine Fitzgerald, previously a Section overall and assistant champ, adds a Colorado Senior PGA Professional title

The three players who were right on Caine Fitzgerald’s heels on Tuesday had all won the Colorado Senior PGA Professional Championship before. But rather than letting them have all the fun in this prestigious event, Fitzgerald joined them as a senior champ from the Colorado Section.
A resident of Parker and the PGA head professional at Meadow Hills Golf Course in Aurora, Fitzgerald fended off the challenge and won the senior championship by one stroke on Tuesday at The Fox Hill Club in Longmont.
Fitzgerald shot a 2-over-par 72 on Tuesday to check in at 1 under par overall for the 36-hole event. Micah Rudosky of Conquistador Golf Course, winner of this championship in 2021, and two-time champ Matt Schalk of Colorado National Golf Club shared second place, one behind Fitzgerald. Rudosky closed with a 67 and Schalk with a 69. Another two-time Section senior champ, Doug Rohrbaugh of River Valley Ranch Golf Course, placed fourth, two back of the winner.
While this marks Fitzgerald’s first title in the Colorado Senior PGA Professional Championship — at age 51 — he’s captured numerous other Section titles over the years. Most notably, he won the Colorado PGA Professional Championship in 2012, as well as the Colorado Assistant PGA Professional Championship four times.
The top eight finishers on Tuesday — not counting Schalk, who is exempt after winning the 2022 national Senior PGA Professional Championship — earn spots into that national tournament, set for Oct. 23-26 in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
