Miles Kuhl of Boulder becomes first back-to-back champ at AJGA Wyndham Clark Presented by CGA; Coloradans have now won the last 4 boys titles in AJGA events held in the state; Angela Zhang of Washington the girls champ

By Gary Baines – 6/6/2025

Colorado boys golfers are really hitting their stride when it comes to AJGA tournaments the Centennial State hosts.

Miles Kuhl of Boulder started off the new year of Colorado-based AJGA events with a victory on Friday at The Wyndham Clark Presented by the Colorado Golf Assocation at Walnut Creek Golf Preserve in Westminster.

That makes it four straight AJGA tournaments in the state that have been won by Coloradans on the boys side.

Kuhl prevailed in this same event at Walnut Creek a year ago, then Tyler Long of Evergreen won the AJGA Colorado Springs Junior, and Austin Hunt of Highlands Ranch came out on top at the AJGA Junior Open at The Bridges presented by the City of Montrose.

Prior to last year, a Colorado male hadn’t won an AJGA title in the Centennial State since 2021.

Kuhl, a senior-to-be at Fairview High School who was named the CGA’s 2024 Boys Player of the Year, shot a 6-under-par 30 on the front nine on Friday and closed with an eagle on the back nine to card a 7-under 65. That gave him a 12-under 204 total and a two-stroke victory.

That makes Kuhl the first two-time winner of this tournament on either the boys or girls side. In all, Kuhl is one of six Coloradans to win this AJGA tournament since it debuted in 2015. The others are Owen Cornmesser of Fort Collins (2021), Jack Hughes of Snowmass Village (2019), Dillon Stewart of Fort Collins (2018), Hadley Ashton of Erie (2022) and Hailey Schalk of Erie (2017).

For the three days, Kuhl, a member of the Team Colorado junior elite squad, finished with one eagle, 14 birdies and four bogeys.

In addition to Kuhl going back-to-back, Coloradans claimed the top five places in the boys tournament. Second-round leader Parker Shaw of Pueblo (-10) took second, Brayden Destefano of Peyton (-9) was third, and Charlie Doyle of Colorado Springs (-5) and Ash Edwards of Boulder (-5) tied for fourth. Kuhl and Edwards are high school teammates at Fairview.

Kuhl, who qualified for the U.S. Amateur last year, was named one of two male recipients of “Future Famer” awards last year by the Colorado Golf Hall of Fame, joining Long. He has verbally committed to play his college golf at San Diego State beginning in the fall of 2026.

As for the girls competition at The Wyndham Clark Presented by the CGA, Angela Zhang of Bellevue, Wash., cruised to a five-stroke victory after three straight rounds of 70 left her at 6 under par. Elsa Hsieh of Fremont, Calif. (-1) placed second. The top Coloradan was Ella Scott of Castle Rock, who went 72-74-74 for a 4-over-par total. Scott won the 5A girls state high school individual title earlier this spring.
