The CGA Women’s Team Stableford Tournament kicked off the 2025 women’s tournament season today. The tournament was hosted at Plum Creek Golf Club in Castle Rock, Colorado. Thirty teams made up the field with four different flights.
The Team Stableford tournament involves 30 teams, with four competitors on each team, each playing their own ball. Teams are pre-flighted according to combined playing handicap, with approximately 8 teams per flight. An overall team champion is also crowned, the team who completes the round with the most stableford points. On each hole the three highest individual stableford scores out of the four players are combined for that team’s hole score. Stableford points are awarded to a player on each whole by comparing the number of strokes taken in a hole to a fixed target score, which is Net Par or 2 points.
Always one of the more popular events of the season, participants show up ready to golf with their teammates, sometimes sporting matching outfits or colors to get into the team spirit.
This year, defending champions Molly Huntsman, Jil Wilcox, Karlin Hayes and Karen Lesko (pictured below) of the second flight were once again the overall champions with a total of 117 points, narrowly beating out the third flight winners Rochelle Tisdale, Trish Swanson, Leanna Rosenow, and Darlene Evans who finished with a total of 116 points.
Hayes, Wilcox, Huntsman, and Lesko have been competing together in team events for the past five years, leading to a great team dynamic that allows them to consistently be terrific competitors. “We are so supportive of each other, and we’re all grinders, we grind out every single hole so we never give in” they said after the round. Although they expected to play well today and possibly win their flight, they said that winning the overall championship again was more of a bonus.
Kelly McCormick, Kristin Smith, Sydney Wrench, and Jolene Wong took home the first flight title after accruing 107 points, while Michell Irving, Karen Leuschel, Sharon Thiel, and Laura Wetzel won the second flight with 105 points.
