Home-Field Advantage at the 2023 CGA Women’s Hickory

Lake Valley Golf Club in Niwot, Colorado was the scenic spot for the 2023 CGA Women’s Hickory Tournament on July 24. Both the overall titles were perhaps partly earned by home-field advantage, as Gaye Fairbairn of Lake Valley WGA won the Overall Gross Title, thanks to her 19-over-par 89.

Paula Sinn-Penfold, also of Lake Valley WGA, is this year’s Overall Low Net Champion with a total net score of 4-under-par 66. Jenny Elliott of Foothills LGA-18 won the First Flight Low Gross with a result of 21-over-par 91. Kim Buck of Fossil Trace WGA won the Second Flight Low Gross with a score of 21-over-par 91 and Carolyn Bachamp of Legacy Women’s Golf Association won the Third Flight Low Gross with a 25-over-par 95.

Defending Overall Low Net Champion Rose Rismanchi of Springhill GC Pro Shop took the Fourth Flight Low Gross crown with a score of 25-over-par 95 and Kathy Essig of Broken Tee Women’s Saturday 18 won the Fifth Flight Low Gross Title thanks to her 32-over-par 102 round.

Ursula Geiger of Estes Park WGA was victorious in the First Flight Low Net, shooting par of 70. Michelle Stanek of Homestead Weekend Women ended up taking the Second Flight Low Net at 1-under-par 69 and Victoria Ponce of West Woods WGA 18 won the Third Flight Low Net, shooting 1-over-par 71.

Maureen Cox of Indian Peaks WGA shot even to win the Fourth Flight Low Net with Carol Barrett of Saddle Rock WGA 18 also shooting even to take care of business in the Fifth Flight Low Net.

Under this tournament’s format, players with handicaps ranging from 18-36 are placed into one of five flights, counting both their gross and net play scores.
