Jones Fires 64 to Take Lead

Connor Jones of The Ranch Country Club shoots 64 for the second day in a row to take the lead over the field by 3 strokes.

The final group of the 86th CGA Amateur championship was expected to deliver low scores and that’s exactly what Davis Bryant, Connor Jones, and Colin Prater did. Together, the trio accumulated 17 birdies and one eagle throughout Saturday’s round. All three finished the day under par and within the Top 5.

Jones has had a stellar 2022, winning the Mountain West Individual Title, CGA Match Play Championship, and low amateur honors at the Colorado Open. His performance this week has been nothing short of stellar as well. Saturday,  Jones shot a bogey-free 64 for the second day in a row while playing alongside his Colorado State teammate Davis Bryant, who shot a three-under-par 69 on Saturday and starts Sunday’s final round trailing Jones by three.

Colin Prater, who started the day 4 shots behind the leaders, shot a third-round 67, and will start the final round five shots behind Jones.

Tyler Severin, who plays college golf for the University of Wyoming, played his best round of the tournament, carding a 65 with only one bogey. He currently sits in 3rd place, 4 shots behind Jones.
