DU’s Ryder Heuston fires 63 for medalist honors in qualifying for CoBank Colorado Open; fellow Coloradans Kyle Leydon, Taylor Murtland also advance

By Gary Baines - 7/21/2021

Three more Coloradans, including medalist Ryder Heuston of Louisville, were among the 11 players who qualified Wednesday for next week’s CoBank Colorado Open.

Heuston, a University of Denver golfer, fired an 8-under-par 63 at Legacy Ridge Golf Course in Westminster to win Wednesday’s qualifying tournament by two shots. He finished the day with an eagle on the par-5 sixth hole to go along with seven birdies and one bogey. He birdied four consecutive holes starting with No. 12.

Other Coloradans who will join Heuston at the Colorado Open — set for July 29-Aug. 1 at Green Valley Ranch Golf Club in northeast Denver — were Taylor Murtland of Colorado Springs and First Tee of GVR member Kyle Leydon of Commerce City. Both shot 3-under-par 68 and prevailed in a playoff with Will Chadwick of Scottsdale, Ariz., when each of the Coloradans birdied the first extra hole.
