Logan Hale from Erie won two state titles during her high school days, and now she’s in the victory column in college golf too.
The University of Denver junior peaked at DU’s own tournament on Sunday, prevailing individually out of 85 competitors in the Ron Moore Intercollegiate at DU Golf Club at Highlands Ranch.
Hale, winner of two girls 4A state high school individual championships while competing for Erie H.S., recorded rounds of 67-72-70 for a 7-under-par total over the weekend, which tied her for the title with Sophia Macias of Tulane and Isabel Brozena of Xavier.
Over the three rounds, Hale carded an eagle (on the par-5 18th hole, which was her 12th hole of the day on Sunday), 13 birdies and eight bogeys.
Also notching top-10 finishes on Sunday were DU junior teammate Maren Farbu (-5, good for share of fourth place) and Maddy Bante of Notre Dame, a graduate of St. Mary’s Academy High School (-2, ninth place).
Though Wednesday marked Hale’s first individual college victory, it’s her sixth top-10, with her previous best being a third-place showing. Three of those top-10s have come in Colorado, including a fifth place at last year’s Ron Moore Intercollegiate.
In the 15-school team standings, host DU tied for fifth on Sunday at 7 over par, which left the Pioneers 13 strokes behind champion UNLV. The University of Colorado was eighth (11 over), Northern Colorado ninth (+17) and Colorado State 12th (+30).
