Coloradan Don Hurter survives 36-hole cut, advances to round 3 of national Senior PGA Professional Championship

Only about a third of the original field at the national Senior PGA Professional Championship survives the 36-hole cut and sticks around for the weekend. One Coloradan made the grade on Friday in Austin, Texas.

Don Hurter of Sedalia, an instructor at Castle Pines Golf Club, shot a 1-over-par 73 on day 2, leaving him tied for 63rd place at 1-over 143. The Coloradan trails leader Chad Sorensen of Taft, Calif., by 12.

The top 90 players and ties advance to Saturday’s third round, after which another cut will take place, to the top 70 and ties.

Hurter chalked up five birdies and six bogeys on Friday.   

In addition to the title being on the line this week, 35 players will earn berths into the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship, which will be held in May in Benton Harbor, Mich.
