By Gary Baines - 11/14/2019

Gunner Wiebe, the Kent Denver graduate who went on to earn the CGA Les Fowler Player of the Year award in 2010, shot a 2-under-par 70 on Thursday and shares sixth place after Thursday’s opening round of the National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

Also posting a sub-par round on Thursday was Ben Lanting of Littleton, winner of the last two Colorado PGA Assistants Championships, who managed a 71, good for 12th place.

The 72-hole event, featuring a field of 132, will continue through Sunday.

Wiebe (pictured), an assistant professional at Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles, won the National Car Rental Southern California Assistant PGA Professional Championship this year.
