Coloradan Jake Staiano shares lead with Ben Geyer at Sinclair Rocky Mountain Open

By Gary Baines - 8/27/2021

Early this month, Jake Staiano of Englewood earned $15,550 for his second-place showing in the CoBank Colorado Open.

On Saturday, the former Colorado State University golfer is hoping for more and better. Meaning, he’s out for a victory — and the $20,000 that goes with it — at the Sinclair Rocky Mountain Open in Grand Junction.

The former CGA Player of the Year, who shared the lead after Thursday’s opening round at Tiara Rado Golf Course, remains tied for the top spot after Friday, albeit with just one other co-leader.

Staiano and pro Ben Geyer of Arbuckle, Calif., both shot their second consecutive round of 5-under-par 66 to check in at 10-under 132 heading into Saturday’s final 18 holes.

On Friday, Staiano carded an eagle, six birdies, a bogey and a double bogey. Geyer countered with six birdies and a bogey on day 2.

Sitting a stroke out of the lead is Phoenix pro Juan Fernandez (67-66), while former University of Wyoming golfer John Murdock (66-68) is two back.
