It shouldn’t have come as any surprise who finished at the top of the leaderboard at Monday’s Colorado Collegiate Amateur Series event.
After it, it was held at Bear Creek Golf Club in west Denver, and Bear Creek just happens to be Cal McCoy’s home course.
The University of Denver golfer, who finished fourth overall in August at the Rocky Mountain Open, was the only player to break par on Monday, shooting a bogey-free 3-under-par 69 for a three-stroke victory. He birdied three holes on the front nine and carded nine pars on the back.
A total of 34 golfers competed at Bear Creek.
Tying for second on Monday were two other local Division I college players — Westin Pals of the University of Northern Colorado and Castle Rock, the 2019 3A state high school individual champion, and University of Colorado golfer Victor Bjorlow. They matched 72s, with Bjorlow recording an eagle and three birdies, and Pals making five birdies.
Jack Hughes of CU and Aspen, and Gavin Hagstrom of Colorado State University and Fort Collins, both carded 73s to share fourth place.
