Rally on final day earns Coloradan Jackson Solem conditional status on PGA Tour Canada

By Gary Baines - 3/11/2023

A strong final-day surge put Coloradan Jackson Solem over the hump, giving him conditional status on PGA Tour Canada for the 2023 season.

The former University of Denver golfer, who grew up in Longmont, finished 13th out of 130 players Friday in the third PGA Tour Canada qualifying tournament of the year, this one in Dothan, Ala.

In order to receive at least conditional status, a player had to place in the top 30 and ties, and Solem was 32nd entering the final round. But a roller-coaster 5-under-par 67 that featured an eagle and seven birdies moved him up 19 spots on the scoreboard.

As it was, the 24-year-old ended up just two strokes out of a playoff for the top 10, with the first through 10th-place finishers earning exempt status for the first half of the season.

Solem, a onetime 4A state high school individual champion who went on to qualify for the 2021 U.S. Amateur, posted an 8-under-par 280 total (71-70-72-67), leaving him 11 strokes behind medalist Stephen Franken.

For the tournament, Solem recorded an eagle, 21 birdies, 11 bogeys and two double bogeys.

This week marked the third of six qualifying tournaments for PGA Tour Canada, with the next one coming April 4-7 in Litchfield Park, Ariz.
