Former touring pro AJ Morris of Aspen claims men’s open division title at PGA National Club Championship

By Gary Baines – 3/5/2025

AJ Morris of Aspen Golf Club, a former PGA Tour Canada player-turned realtor, led wire to wire and won the men’s open division of the PGA National Club Championship on Monday at Reynolds Lake Oconee in Greensboro, Ga.

The event brings together many top amateur club champions from round the nation.

“It means a lot to win,” Morris said. “There aren’t a ton of golfers from Aspen. I always take so much pride in representing my small hometown in the mountains that only gets six months of golf a year.”

Morris shot a 1-under-par 71 on the final day, giving him a three-day total of even-par 216, resulting in a five-stroke victory. He went 73-72-71 for the three rounds. The closing 71 was the low final round in the men’s open division, which featured a field of 78 players.

Morris, an Aspen native who won more than 10 tournaments as a professional, had previously placed in the top 10 at this event in 2022 (third place) and 2023 (seventh).

David Nelson from Columbine Country Cub (71-71-75) finished fourth in the men’s legend division of the National Championship.
