10th-place showing vs. stellar field at WM Phoenix Open gives Colorado native Wyndham Clark his biggest PGA Tour payday ever

By Gary Baines - 2/12/2023

Do you want a tangible indication of how a PGA Tour event having “elevated status” affects things?

Try this on for size:

Denver native Wyndham Clark posted the 11th top-10 finish of his PGA Tour career. But he just snuck in the top 10, with a four-way tie for 10th place.

Though Clark has recorded a couple of top-five showings on the PGA Tour, Sunday’s payday was the biggest of his Tour career.

The two-time state high school individual champion from Valor Christian picked up a whopping $485,000 for his performance at TPC Scottsdale. It was more than he earned for even his PGA Tour-career-best runner-up finish — in a playoff — at the Bermuda Championship in the fall of 2020, when he made $436,000.

Clark’s showing at the WM Phoenix Open was arguably one of his very best in 125 PGA Tour starts. After all, the field for the event featured 18 of the top 20 players in the World Golf Rankings.

The 2010 CGA Amateur champion, now 29, was a model of consistency at TPC Scottsdale, posting scores of 68-67-70-69 for a 10-under-par total of 274, which left him nine strokes back of Scottie Scheffler, who won the event for the second straight year.

Clark carded just three bogeys in the final two rounds combined — and only one on Sunday — in recording his second top-10 of this PGA Tour season.
