Former CU golfer Yannik Paul records his third top-2 finish on DP World Tour in the last 9+ months

By Gary Baines - 2/19/2023

As Yannik Paul’s frequent-flier miles have soared as he’s competed in the U.S., continental Europe, England, Ireland, Scotland,  Africa, the Middle East and Southeast Asia over the last year, so has his position in the World Golf Rankings.

On Sunday, the former University of Colorado golfer helped his cause once again, this time by finishing solo second in the DP World Tour’s Thailand Classic.

Though Paul ended up a distant runner-up to Thorbjorn Olsesen, who prevailed by four, it marked the German’s third top-2 showing in the last nine-plus months on the circuit. And in his 1 1/2 seasons on the DP World Tour — formerly known as the European Tour — the former Buff owns seven top-10s, including a victory in October at the Mallorca Golf Classic.

Paul, who played for CU on and off from 2013-18 and was living in Colorado part-time until recently, is currently ranked No. 150 in the world, and figures to gain spots with the showing on Sunday.

In Thailand, Paul went 65-69-66-68 for a 20-under-par 268 total. For the week, he chalked up two eagles (both in the first round), 22 birdies, four bogeys and a double bogey.

The runner-up performance was worth about $222,000 for Paul.
