Competing in a field of 76 players — most of them pros — Gavin Hagstrom of Windsor tied for fourth on Wednesday in a mini-tour event in Mesa, Ariz.
Hagstrom, a freshman on the Colorado State University golf team, finished 8 under par for 54 holes at the Outlaw Tour’s Longbow Classic, the best score by four strokes among the 28 amateurs who played in the tournament.
Meanwhile, professional Jeremy Paul, a former University of Colorado golfer, placed third, earning $2,500.
Paul posted scores of 67-67-68 for an 11-under-par 202 total, which left him four strokes behind 49-year-old champion Steven Alker of Fountain Hills, Ariz. Paul made an eagle, 12 birdies and three bogeys over the three days.
Hagstrom, a 2020 graduate of Fossil Ridge High School, carded 13 birdies and five bogeys in the tournament in which he shot 69-68-68.
Hagstrom posted a couple of top-5 finishes at Colorado-based college golf replacement events this fall.
