Denver’s Jon Lindstrom continues strong play with a top-12 finish at British Senior Amateur for the 2nd time in the last 4 years

By Gary Baines

Three years ago, as Jon Lindstrom was ascending the ranks of the top senior amateurs in the world, one of his accomplishments was posting a ninth-place finish in one of the planet’s top senior amateur championships, the British Senior Am.

Since then, he’s battled prostate cancer for a second time, returned to a relatively robust competitive schedule, and has again been climbing the senior amateur ranks.

And, for the second time in four years, the Colorado Golf Hall of Famer found himself with a top-12 finish at the British Senior Amateur. Last week, Lindstrom tied for 11th out of 168 players at Frilford Heath Golf Club northwest of London.

The Denver resident and Lakewood Country Club member posted rounds of 71-71-73-76 for a 3-over-par total, which left him 13 strokes behind runaway winner Bryan Hoops of the U.S.

Lindstrom was the fifth-highest finisher among the Americans at the British Senior Am, which is limited to golfers 55 and older.

It’s been a strong recent couple of months for Lindstrom in tournament golf as he won the CGA Senior Four-Ball with Richard Bradsby in May, finished third in the Trans-Miss Seniors — also in May, and was runner-up to Kent Wilmes at the CGA Senior Match Play in June.
