Part-time Aspen resident Liselotte Neumann 2 out of lead going into final day of U.S. Senior Women’s Open

By Gary Baines - 7/31/2021

While a victory by Annika Sorenstam in her U.S. Senior Women’s Open debut might be the most headline-attracting storyline on Sunday in Fairfield, Conn., another Swede might have other ideas.

Liselotte Neumann, who recently took up part-time residence in Aspen, remained in second place on Saturday at the USSWO, but shaved a stroke off Sorenstam’s lead.

Neumann, the 1988 U.S. Women’s Open winner, fired a 1-under-par 71 on Saturday to check in at 6-under 210. Meanwhile, Sorenstam’s 72 left her at 208.

Neumann made three birdies and two bogeys on Saturday, with one of the bogeys coming on the 18th hole.

“I’ll probably be pretty nervous tomorrow (for the final round),” Neumann said. “It's a good feeling. I just love golf and love to compete. It’s just the most fun thing we can do being out here, and being able to be in the last group, it’s pretty special.”

Fellow Coloradans Sherry Andonian-Smith (78 Saturday) and Hollis Stacy (76) share 36th place at 226. Stacy, a three-time U.S. Women’s Open champion, was paired on Saturday with her sister, amateur Martha Leach.

Here are the scores for all the players with significant Colorado connections competing at the U.S. Senior Women’s Open:
