Lone Tree GC holds steady to win the CGA Women's Club Team Championship at Plum Creek for the first time.

The scenic and challenging Plum Creek Golf Club hosted the CGA Women’s Club Team Championship wherethe team from Lone Tree earned it's first CGA title in a narrrow 4-stroke victory over the defending champs from Kennedy/Fitzsimons. The team from Overland Park finished in 3rd place, only 2 strokes out of 2nd and 9 stokes clear of 4th place. The close finish of the top 3 teams was impressive considering the ABCD Team Stroke Play format (gross score of all four team members is combined to determine the overall team score) requiring all four players to stay the course through the final holes.
When asked how it feels to win, Lone Tree answers came quickly and stacked on top of each other. Because they had never won this particular title before, the moment carried real weight — and because golf is normally an individual grind, doing it as a team is what made it special.
“We’ve never won this, so it means a lot. This is pretty unbelievable.”
“I love golf, and to play as a team and to win as a team is — well team is the best… so much fun. And it’s so hard… we really had to encourage each other the entire round.”
Lone Tree cited their support structure as one of the biggest keys to their victory. Even during low points, the message inside the group never changed. And their strengths in playing the course were more in damage control than in spectacular shot-making.
“Even when we were down, everybody was like, ‘It doesn’t matter… just next shot, next shot.’ So there was a lot of encouragement, which I think is huge.”
“As far as golf itself, we did not have penalty strokes… Our strength is our C-and-D players that each played with the same ball the whole round. Which is incredible… We did not blow up holes. We limited penalty strokes."
When asked what their greatest weakness was to overcome, the question produced the interview’s best comedy beat — one player immediately chiming “the B player!” (referring to herself) which earned a chorus response of “Oh my God!”
