How the West was Won

Parachute, Colorado - For the second year in a row, the CGA Western Championship took place at Battlement Mesa Golf Club in Parachute, Colorado. The 54-hole stroke play competition started on Friday, featuring both an open division and a senior division.

In the open division, Kyle Leydon (Commerce City, CO) took control of the lead in the opening round, going 5-under 67 to be one of two players to be under par. Charlie Tucker (Castle Pines, CO) was one under par, trailing Leydon. During the second round, many players began making a run up the leaderboard, but Leydon held the lead with a 2-under par 70.

However, in the third round, Matthew Zions (Lakewood, CO) came knocking on the door and caught Leydon atop the leaderboard, forcing a playoff. Leydon won the first playoff hole after making the winning putt. "Making the winning putt felt great. I had a feeling that it felt right and was on track. I trusted myself that I could make it, " said Leydon.

"It feels great to have won, because anyone who has played at a competitive level knows winning doesn't always happen often, so when it does, it feels really good," said Leydon.

Leydon will now head back to school, where he plays for CSU Pueblo.

Senior division

Richard Bradsby (Golden, CO) defended his title as the Senior Division Western Champion. Bradsby took the lead in round one and decided it would be easiest to keep it the rest of the time. After an even round on the first day, the second round looked even easier, going 3-under, 69. At the end of the championship, Bradsby was one over with the closest competitor ten shots back.

This adds to Bradsby's victory collection for 2025. Back in May, Bradsby won the CGA Senior Four-Ball Championship with partner Jon Lindstrom.
