CommonGround Golf Course hosted the second of two qualifiers for the USGA’s US Amateur on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, but inclement weather held play over to Wednesday, July 20, 2022.
Griffin Barela (Lakewood) and Carson Griggs (Sand Springs, OK) finished on top after 36-holes, punching their tickets to the US Amateur Championship at Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, New Jersey on August 15th, 2022.
Barela was the medalist with a first-round 65 and second-round 68, for a total score of 7-under-par. Griggs was one shot behind, scoring 69 and 65, to finish 6-under. Barela, who plays collegiate golf for the University of Wisconsin, birdied the 18th hole to give him the one-shot lead over Griggs. Griggs graduated from the University of Denver in the spring after a storied collegiate golf career with the Pioneers.
Connor Jones (Westminster) and Nick Nosewicz (Aurora), who both finished with 36-hole scores of 5-under, took the two alternate spots.
Barela and Griggs join Gavin Hagstrom and Cole Nygren, who qualified for the US Amateur at Columbine Country Club in early July
