Contestants at next week’s U.S. Senior Open at The Broadmoor account for 300-plus PGA Tour wins and 29 major championship titles

By Gary Baines – 6/16/2025

The field for the U.S. Senior Open — arguably the most prestigious championship in senior golf — is nearly finalized.

As of June 13, 153 of the 156 spots in the field for the tournament at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs (June 26-29) were filled. The final-qualifying  tournaments concluded on Thursday, with the one at the Country Club of Colorado being among the last of them.

And, not surprisingly, quite an accomplished field it is.

Here it is by the numbers: Those 153 players account for 29 open-age major championship victories (led by Ernie Els’ four), plus 61 senior major titles (led by Bernhard Langer’s 12). Perhaps even more impressively, they’ve won a cumulative 329 PGA Tour events, with Vijay Singh racking up 34 of those.

And, barring late additions or subtractions, six players with significant Colorado ties will be in the field. Here they are, listed alphabetically: Parker resident Shane Bertsch, Colorado Golf Hall of Famer Brandt Jobe, Denver resident Chris DiMarco, former Aspen resident Justin Leonard, former Colorado State University golfer Darrin Overson, and Erie resident Matt Schalk.
