Takin’ Care of Business

George Solich, a very prominent member of Colorado golf community in recent decades, set to be inducted into another hall of fame, this time the Colorado Business Hall of Fame

By Gary Baines – 10/10/2025

Hall of Fame inductions have come fast and furious for George Solich in the last 14 months.

In August of last year, the former University of Colorado Evans Scholar was inducted into the Western Golf Association’s Caddie Hall of Fame, along with older brother Duffy.

In December, he was enshrined in the Colorado Golf Hall of Fame.

And now, Solich is set to go into the Colorado Business Hall of Fame.

The Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce and Junior Achievement-Rocky Mountain recently announced six people who will be inducted into the Colorado Business Hall of Fame in 2026, and Solich is among them. Solich, the Appel family, Buz Koelbel, Chuck Morris, Blair Richardson and Tweet Kimball will formally go into the Hall on Feb. 5 at a dinner set for the Hyatt Regency Denver at the Colorado Convention Center.

Solich has made a big impact in Colorado golf over the last two decades, but as a businessman he’s long been very successful in the oil and gas business. After beginning his career at the Apache Corporation in 1984, he’s owned and led several companies in the 21st century. Solich founded Cordillera Energy Partners, selling three versions of the company for a total of more than $4 billion. In 2013, he launched FourPoint Energy. He subsequently started LongPoint Minerals, a mineral and royalty company. Solich co-founded DoublePoint Energy in 2018, with the company selling for more than $6 billion three years later. He formed FourPoint Resources — an acquisition, exploration and production company — in 2024.

Solich grew up in Colorado Springs and caddied at The Broadmoor. He was a CU Evans Scholar from 1979-83 and served as house president for one year. With his success in business, he’s become a prominent philanthropist, including being a major supporter of the Evans Scholarship, which provides full-tuition-and housing scholarships to high-achieving caddies. One of the E.S. houses has been located at CU since the late 1960s.

Solich, the chairman and president of Castle Pines Golf Club, presented the awards when the club hosted the Drive, Chip & Putt Regional Qualifying in 2023.

Starting in the first decade of this century, Solich fully funded the cost of hiring a CGA staffer that would cultivate Colorado-based candidates for the Evans Scholarship.

Solich and brother Duffy lent their name and considerable support to the Solich Caddie & Leadership Academy, which was founded in 2012 at CommonGround Golf Course in Aurora, with the concept being replicated since by numerous courses in Colorado and other states. A similar program the Soliches helped found is The Broadmoor Caddie & Leadership Academy. The Solich and Broadmoor Academies promote the use of caddies by paying their base fees through an educational grant, with participating golfers having the option of adding a tip. The Academies also feature a robust leadership element, with each participating youngster not only caddying but required to attend leadership classes and do community-service work each summer.

George Solich also was a founder of the Colorado Golf Foundation, which he got off the ground with a large donation. The CGF has made significant contributions over the years to numerous youth-related golf organizations in Colorado.

In addition, Solich played a very large role in drawing two PGA Tour events to Colorado — the BMW Championship in 2014 (at Cherry Hills Country Club) and 2024 (at Castle Pines Golf Club). All the net proceeds from the BMW Championship benefit the Evans Scholars Foundation, and last year’s BMW raised a record $10.2 million for the cause and was named PGA Tour Tournament of the Year. The 2014 tournament netted $3.5 million and also earned the same PGA Tour honor. The 2014 and ’24 BMWs have been the only two PGA Tour events held in Colorado since the departure of The International in 2006.

In recent years, Solich has served as chairman and president at Castle Pines Golf Club. He was among those who provided major financial support for the building of the new Colorado Golf Hall of Fame Museum at The Broadmoor.
