Former U.S. Women’s Open qualifier — and 2014 CGA Women’s Stroke Play champ — Hannah Wood advances to match play at U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur

By Gary Baines – 10/5/2025

Nine years ago, Arapahoe High School graduate Hannah Wood qualified for — and competed in — the most prestigious of USGA’s women’s championships, the U.S. Women’s Open.

Not surprisingly, much has transpired for Wood since then, including going pro and then getting her amateur status back. And on Sunday, the 2014 CGA Women’s Stroke Play champion took a step forward while playing in another USGA championship.

Wood shot rounds of 77-76 (9 over par total) over the weekend at Monterey Peninsula Country Club in Pebble Beach, Calif., earning a spot in the match-play portion of the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur. She went birdie-par on her final two holes, which, as it turned out, kept her from having to tee it up in a playoff for one of the final match-play berths.

As it was, Wood, now a Dallas resident, tied for 57th place out of the 132-player field in the stroke-play portion of the event, with the top 64 advancing to match play. She’ll play her opening match on Monday.

Meanwhile, it’s possible another player with strong Colorado connections also will make match play. But in the case of Kirsty Hodgkins-Redner of Lafayette, she’ll need to do well in a 12-for-4 playoff on Monday morning to nail down one of the final match-play spots. Hodgkins -Redner, winner the CGA Women’s Match Play in 2020 and this year’s CGA Women’s Mid-Amateur Stroke Play, went 75-79 over the weekend to finish one behind Wood.

The U.S. Women’s Mid-Am is limited to competitors 25 and older.

Here are the scores for the players with strong Colorado ties at the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur at Monterey Peninsula CC in Pebble Beach, Calif.:

57. Former Coloradan Hannah Wood 77-76–153

61. Kirsty Hodgkins-Redner, Lafayette 75-79—154

73. Haley George, Denver 79-76—155
