Money Matters

With Wyndham Clark set to surpass $30 million in official PGA Tour earnings, it’s illuminating to note how the top tour players in Colorado golf history rank on the career lists

By Gary Baines – 2/24/2026

Denver native Wyndham Clark is on the verge of becoming the 57th — or perhaps the 58th — player in PGA Tour history to earn $30 million or more in official money on that circuit.

After playing five straight events on the PGA Tour — tied for his longest such stretch without a week off since 2021 — the Colorado Golf Hall of Famer needs $181,295 to reach the milestone, and barring the unforeseen he’ll likely surpass $30M sometime in March.

There’s only one player with major Colorado ties higher on the PGA Tour career money list than Clark, the Valor Christian grad: former Aspen resident Justin Leonard, who sits at $33,926,343 but who has only played in the British Open on the PGA Tour in recent years. At 53, he’s one of the top players on PGA Tour Champions, having won twice on that circuit since the beginning of 2025.

All of which got us to thinking about where the best tour golfers in Colorado history sit on such lists — not only that of the PGA Tour, but for the LPGA and PGA Tour Champions. (We’ll leave aside LIV Golf, where part-time Coloradan Scott Vincent has racked up $9,046,317 in earnings in recent years.) Obviously, money lists can help see how players stack up — but also how paydays have changed drastically through the years.

For instance, Clark has racked up his nearly $30 million after winning three times on the PGA Tour, including the 2023 U.S. Open. Meanwhile, World Golf Hall of Famer Hale Irwin, a Boulder High School and University of Colorado grad, earned one-fifth as much ($5.966 million) in his PGA Tour career, when he chalked up 20 victories, including three U.S. Open titles.

Even accounting for their 48-year difference in age (80 vs. 32), Irwin’s earnings in current-day dollars (just under $30 million) would be less than Clark’s, despite Irwin having won 17 more times on the PGA Tour to this point.

As two-time PGA Tour winner Jonathan Kaye, a Denver native and former CU golfer, once noted: “I passed Jack Nicklaus (in career PGA Tour earnings) my third year on the Tour. There’s no way I should ever pass Jack Nicklaus.”

Of course, Irwin certainly made hay on PGA Tour Champions in the late 1990s and in the early 2000s. With 45 Champions wins — second-most, only behind Bernhard Langer — Irwin won $27.159 million in official money on the Champions circuit, ranking him second all-time.

The LPGA Tour, like the PGA Tour, provides an equally eye-opening discrepancy regarding two of the best female golfers of all time who have significant Colorado connections. Babe Zaharias, who lived in Edgewater during the 1940s and also had extended family in the Pueblo area, earned a not-so-whopping $66,237 on the LPGA circuit, where she accounted for 41 victories, including 10 major titles.

In contrast, fellow Colorado Golf Hall of Famer Jennifer Kupcho, a graduate of Jefferson Academy, has $6.513 million in official LPGA earnings, having won four times with one major title to date. Again, accounting for the 86-year difference in age, Zaharias’ official total would be roughly $1.5 million based on current-day dollars.

So, without further ado, here are the career tour money earnings for the top golfers with significant Colorado ties, and their all-time ranking on those lists: (We’re also including the top player overall on each list.)
