FAB 5: Membership Means More Great Gifts

If you’ve been following the Fab 5 the past few years, you may know that we golfers in the McMulligan household are perfectly happy giving ourselves gifts. And that if you’re giving us something, we could do with a training aid or a new putter (fitted, of course, just for us).

This year, I’ve picked out five gifts in keeping with the CGA’s “Membership Means More” theme. And even though the driving range may now be closed, the gift range is wide open!

Words of warning: If any of these links don’t work for you, make sure you are logged in as a CGA member! Because, after all, membership does mean more.

For the sports fan: Let’s face it, there will be days without golf in the months to come. But here in Colorado, we have the Avs and the Nuggets! And they’ve partnered with the CGA to offer fee-free tickets for select games. Yes, you know, those add-on fees that make tickets that seem affordable feel suddenly expensive. NBA fans, start here. NHL fans, start here. What a winning gift! (Hint for Mr. McMulligan: Nikola Jokic!)

For the any-weather golfer: Sometimes I think umbrellas and reading glasses were made to be lost. A visit to the CGA’s Member Zone changed my mind about the umbrellas, because if I had a Weatherman, not only would I be careful not to lose it, with Bluetooth location technology I probably couldn’t lose it! And the materials withstand Colorado winds, up to 55 mph! Find your reading glasses, log on to Weatherman and use the special code for a 20 percent CGA member discount on your entire order.

For the best-dressed or worst-dressed golfer: I see I can buy Mr. McMulligan a cool shirt from Pins and Aces at 15 percent off, a gorgeous CGA-logo jacket for each of us from Cutter & Buck at 25 percent off, the perfect hat in one of Imperial’s many styles at 20 percent off and, for me, a smart tote from Sassy Caddy at 20 percent off. All in the Member Zone! So glad I saw this before hitting the stores on Black Friday! But wait, I could go into the Denver-area PGA Tour Superstores, show my GHIN membership and get 15 percent off just about anything!

For or from the golfer who has everything and wants to share: December 9 is Colorado Gives Day and many nonprofits need help this year. Did you know the CGA has a charitable giving arm, the Colorado Golf Foundation? The Foundation endeavors to inspire kids on the course and in the classroom across the state by funding organizations that use our game to build character and life skills. It’s also helping make golf affordable and accessible to young people. See more and give more here.

For the new golfer: So many young adults have taken to social golf since the COVID pandemic, it’s inevitable for some to want to be a part of something bigger. The gift of a CGA e-club membership starts them on that road, establishing the handicap that will admit them to golf around the globe and perhaps lead them into a green grass club right here in Colorado. And then there are all the other perks of CGA membership. Maybe next year, they’ll go shopping in the Member Zone for YOU!

Veteran journalist Susan Fornoff has written about golf for publications including the San Francisco Chronicle, ColoradoBiz magazine and her own GottaGoGolf.com. She provides the voice of “Molly McMulligan,” the CGA’s on-course consultant on golf for fun. Mr. McMulligan, Keith DuBay, is also an accomplished journalist and especially enjoys reviewing golf courses. Email the McMulligans at mollymcmulligan@gmail.com.
