A day after defeating stroke-play co-medalist, Coloradan Kirsty Hodgkins-Redner ousted at U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur

It was an impressive run at the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur for Lafayette resident Kirsty Hodgkins-Redner. But on Tuesday it came to an end at Monterey Peninsula Country Club in Pebble Beach, Calif.
A day after successfully negotiating a 12-for-4 playoff to nab one of the final spots in the match-play portion of the event — then going on to beat one of the stroke-play co-medalists in the round of 64 — Hodgkins-Redner was ousted in the round of 32 on Tuesday.
Shannon Fish-Martin of Montgomery, Texas — a former University of Texas golfer, a former pro, and a former contestant on Golf Channel’s “Big Break” — won four of the last six holes to defeat the former University of Colorado golfer, 3 and 1.
Hodgkins-Redner, winner of both the 2020 CGA Women’s Match Play and this year’s CGA Mid-Amateur Stroke Play, led Tuesday’s match 1 up after 11 holes. But Fish-Martin went on a birdie run to take charge. She won holes 12, 13 and 14 with birdies to go 2 up, then closed things out with a winning par on No. 17.
Hodgkins-Redner went 4 over par for 16 holes — while not finishing No. 14. Fish-Martin was even par for 17 holes.
The U.S. Women’s Mid-Am is limited to competitors 25 and older.
