Coloradans Down South

Lehigh opens with 75, Hollern with 76 at U.S. Women’s Amateur

By Gary Baines – 08/05/2019

If the competitors with strong Colorado connections hope to extend their stays at the 2019 U.S. Women’s Amateur beyond Monday and Tuesday, they’ll need to climb the scoreboard in round 2.

With the top 64 players after 36 holes advancing to match play in West Point, Miss., none of the Colorado locals are in the top 64 after Monday’s opening round.

Lauren Lehigh of Loveland is very close, though, as a 3-over-par 75 on Monday left her in 65th place. The 2018 Junior Golf Alliance of Colorado Girls Player of the Year and future University of New Mexico golfer made one birdie and four bogeys in round 1.

Also not far off the standard needed to advance to match play was Katherine Hollern of Sedalia, who carded a first-round 76, good for 86th place. She made a couple of birdies on Monday to go along with two bogeys and two double bogeys.
