Team Colorado Athletes to Play in USNDP Match

Written by CGA Team | October 09, 2026

Three-team competition will feature boys and girls competing in singles and foursomes matches Oct. 17-18 in Puerto Rico

The United States National Development Program (USNDP) will travel to Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, Oct. 17-18, for an international friendly match against teams representing the Federación Mexicana de Golf (FMG) and Puerto Rico Golf Association (PRGA).

Athletes from Team Colorado and Team Georgia were selected to represent the USA, marking the first international competition for USNDP State Junior Team athletes.

“This event represents an important milestone, bringing young athletes together from the three golf federations for the first time," said Heather Daly-Donofrio, managing director, U.S. National Development Program. "We’re grateful for the collaboration with the Mexican Golf Federation and Puerto Rico Golf Association in providing these players the opportunity to compete, learn from one another and continue their development in an international setting.”

The two-day competition will bring together junior athletes from the three organizations for match play as well as a training session with Chris Zambri, head coach of the USNDP.

Each country will field an eight-player team consisting of four girls and four boys. Competition begins with singles matches Saturday morning, Oct. 17, with foursomes in the afternoon. The match concludes with singles matches on Sunday, Oct. 18.

“The match reflects the strong relationship between the Mexican Golf Federation, the USGA and the Puerto Rico Golf Association, and our shared commitment to growing the game and creating opportunities for junior golfers," said Ricky Carrillo, board member and national teams director, Mexican Golf Federation. "We want our players to learn both on and off the course, gaining experiences that will help them in golf and in life. Beyond the competition, this event will introduce them to how elite athletes train and prepare while building friendships across the three teams. We are proud to give our players the opportunity to represent us while carrying the Mexican flag with pride.”

Grand Reserve Golf Club has developed a strong history of hosting elite professional and amateur competition. The Tom Kite-designed layout has served as the site of the PGA Tour’s Puerto Rico Open since the event’s inception in 2008 and hosted the 2022 U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball, the first USGA championship ever conducted in a U.S. territory. The club continued its elite championship tradition by hosting the 2023 Latin America Amateur Championship, further establishing Grand Reserve as a prominent venue for the game in the Caribbean.

“It is a great honor for the Puerto Rico Golf Association to host this international match at Grand Reserve Golf Club," said Ricardo Beale, managing director, Puerto Rico Golf Association. "We are proud to welcome junior golfers from the United States Golf Association, the Mexican Golf Federation and the Puerto Rico Golf Association and provide them the opportunity to compete, learn from one another and experience the warmth and culture of Puerto Rico. We hope they leave with great memories, new friendships, and a deeper appreciation for our island.”
