With individual win and 3 top-3 finishes, Matti Zerwin adds to success of Coloradans in college golf this season

Several Colorado high school graduates have accomplished the feat of capturing individual titles in college golf tournaments in the early portion of the 2026-27 season.

For instance, we’ve chronicled here victories by Brayden Forte (two actually), Nicholas Brooks and Logan Hale. Colorado Mesa’s Henry Starr also has notched an individual win.

Another individual victory — part of a very hot start to the season — has been dished up by former Fairview High School golfer Matti Zerwin at the NCAA Division II level at Northwestern Oklahoma State.

Zerwin, son of longtime Fairview golf coach (and former University of Colorado golfer) John Zerwin, has been on quite a run in the fall season. The senior won the season opener, the NSU Men’s Classic, on Sept. 22 in Tulsa, going 69-68-71 for a 5-under-par total and a one-stroke victory in a 77-player tournament. It was the second outright individual win of Zerwin’s college career and he lost in a playoff at another event.

Then in late September, Zerwin tied for second individually and helped lead his Northwestern Oklahoma State squad to the team title at the Battle for the Belt. Then last Tuesday, he tied for third — at 12 under par — at the Skip Wagnon Invitational.

Three college tournaments this season and three top-3 finishes, including a win. Not too shabby. And Zerwin has two more fall tournaments before a 3 1/2-month mid-season break from college competition.
