CSU's Staiano, Ott go low in final round to notch top-10 finishes in nationally-televised Western Intercollegiate; Rams' Teiffel makes ace

It was a day of personal highlights for several Colorado State University men's golfers on Wednesday in the final round of the nationally-televised Western Intercollegiate in Santa Cruz, Calif.
There was a hole-in-one from freshman Oscar Teiffel (pictured above), who used a 6-iron on the 177-yard eighth hole, though an opening-hole quadruple bogey led to him shooting 79 on the day.
There was a 4-under-par 66 from senior Jake Staiano of Cherry Hills Village, who played his final 10 holes in 6 under par, making an eagle on the par-5 13th.
And there was a 3-under 67 by junior AJ Ott of Fort Collins, his low score of the season.
Going low in the final round led to top-10 finishes for Staiano and Ott, the CGA Players of the Year in 2017 and '18, respectively. They shared ninth place individually in the 84-man field with a 2-under 208 total. It was Ott's third top-10 of the season in major tournaments, and Staiano's second.
As a team, CSU tied for sixth in the 13-school field that included seven teams ranked in the top 50 in the nation.
Elsewhere In Local Golf: CSU finished eighth out of nine teams in the Women's Mountain West Conference Championship in Rancho Mirage, Calif., while the University of Colorado was 11th out of the 11-team field at the Women's Pac-12 Championship in Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.
Ellen Secor paced CSU indivdiually with her 15th-place showing, while Kirsty Hodgkins led the way for CU by placing 26th individually. Coloradan Erin Sargent finished 15th for Wyoming in the MWC tournament.
