Team Wetzel, Leuschel, Irving, and Thiel take home the 2026 CGA Women's Team Stableford Title
The CGA Women’s tournament season is officially underway! The CGA Women’s Team Stableford kicked off the season at Legacy Ridge Golf Course in Westminster, Colorado.
Although the weather was gloomy, thirty teams made up the field with four different flights. At one of the most popular tournaments of the season, teams come dressed in matching outfits and bright colors, which adds to the atmosphere, but this year, warm layers were the name of the game.
The Team Stableford tournament involves 30 teams, with four competitors on each team, each playing their own ball. Teams are pre-flighted according to the combined playing handicap, with approximately 8 teams per flight. An overall team champion is also crowned, the team that completes the round with the most Stableford points. On each hole, the three highest individual Stableford scores out of the four players are combined for that team’s hole score. Stableford points are awarded to a player on each hole by comparing the number of strokes taken in a hole to a fixed target score, which is Net Par or 2 points.
This year, the overall champions were Laura Wetzel, Karen Leuschel, Michell Irving, and Sharon Thiel of the second flight. The champions earned 105 points, edging out the team of Cindy DeRenzo, Regina Werner, Rita O’Kelley, and Alicia Smales by one point, making them the second flight winners.
First flight title went to Kelly McCormick, Kimberley Rauh, Jolene Wong, and Kirstin Smith, who accrued 99 points. Juli Renny, Pam Durkee, Jenine McQuaid, and Dee Martinez took home third flight honors with 103 points, while Debora Kolb, Susan Shaffer, Amy Wesoloskie, and Sally Carsten took fourth flight honors with 93 points.
