In the blistering heat of July, the CGA State Junior Championship for 13U and 11U took place at CommonGround Golf Course, home of the CGA. The championship showcased exceptional young talent across various age groups in a two-day individual stroke play tournament. The event featured an array of impressive performances, highlighting the bright future of golf through a display of talent and sportsmanship. Here’s a closer look at the standout players and memorable moments from this exciting tournament.
11U Girls
11U Girls Champion: Shepherd Choi
Shepherd Choi (Westminster, CO) took the lead on the first day of competition and never let go! On day one, Choi shot a 74, placing her three shots ahead of Ellie Casas (Aurora, CO). During the final round, her determination and focus continued, posting a 76 and finishing nine strokes ahead of Casas. Although this is her first time playing in this event, Choi is no stranger to competition. Back in the Spring, Choi competed in the 2026 Drive, Chip & Putt National Finals at Augusta.
"I'm excited and happy to have won today," said Choi. At only ten years old, she will be back next year for a repeat!
Runner-up: Ellis Casas
Champion: Tucker Worden
After carding a 73 in round one, Tucker Worden (Erie, CO) would go under par in the final round with a 70. Surpassing runner-up Isaiah Knudsen (Mead, CO) by five shots to be this year's champion. The eleven-year-old is looking forward to coming back next year and defending his title.
When asked what was next, he said, "To keep winning tournaments!"
Champion: Sofia Casas
Sofia Casas (Aurora, CO) came into this tournament as the defending champion. And never once did she allow anyone the option to take that title away. In her first round, Casas went low, shooting 67, putting her 11 shots ahead of runner-up Rees Willett (Littleton, CO). In the final round, she carded even par to hoist the trophy again.
Casas has played in two CGA State Junior Championships and has won every time. Next year, she will be moving up to the older division to compete.
"It feels amazing to defend my title. I'm very grateful for the opportunity and for everyone that has helped me along the way," said Casas.
Runner-up: Rees Willett
Champion: Jacob Eagan
The competition in the Boys 13U division was tight. Looking at the leaderboard, the common theme was under par red. In the first round, four boys shot under par. However, in the final round, Jacob Eagan (Castle Rock, CO) and Jordan Rhodes (Brighton, CO) both carded 66 to force a playoff.
On the first playoff hole, both players had tremendous drives. Eagan put his second shot close to the flag to allow for an easy birdie putt. Rhodes, on the other hand, had a lengthy putt for birdie. Rhodes stepped up to the putt and drained it, forcing the playoff to another hole.
On the second playoff hole, Eagan again placed his second shot close to the hole while Rhodes again was looking at a long putt. Eagan went on to make his putt and win the playoff.
"I locked in for today's round, coming up 18 I knew I needed to make eagle and force a playoff," said Eagan.
