Q. What is the Evan's Scholar Foundation?

A. The Evans Scholars Foundation is a charitable trust which provides undergraduate scholarship for deserving caddies, a concept originated by Charles Evans Jr. and known as the Evans Scholars Program. The Evans Scholar Foundation is overseen by the Western Golf Association.

Q. What is an Evans Scholarship?

A. The Evans Scholarship is a one-year grant which covers tuition and housing and may be renewed for up to four years at the Foundation's option.

All recipients of Evans Scholarships are required to live on the campus of the university they attend according to the following guidlines:

  • At the universities where the Evans Scholars Foundation owns and maintains a Scholarship House, Evans Scholars have the privilege of living in the Scholarship House.
  • At the other universities, the Evans Scholarship provides a housing allowance.

A. Evans Scholarships are limited to the universities listed below, depending on the state in which the candidate resides.

  • University of Colorado, Boulder, CO
  • Northwestern University, Evanston, IL
  • University of Illinois, Champaign, IL
  • Northern Illinois University, Dekalb, IL
  • Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN
  • Indiana University, Bloominton, IN
  • University of Missouri, Columbia, MO
  • University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI
  • Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI
  • University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN
  • Ohio State University, Columbus, OH
  • Miami University, Oxford, OH
  • University of Oregon, Eugene, OR
  • Oregon State University, Corvallis, OR
  • Penn State University, University Park, PA
  • University of Washington, Seattle, WA
  • Marquette University, Milwaukee, WI

Q. Who is eligible to apply for an Evans Scholarship?

A.

  • Applicants must have caddied, successfully and regularly, for a minimum of two years and 50 loops. 
  • Applicants must have completed their junior year of high school, have a 3.0 or higher in high school classes, and have taken the ACT
  • Applicants must clearly establish their need for financial assistance.
  • Applicants must be outstanding in character, integrity and leadership

Those who satisfy the above requirements compete for the limited number of Chick Evans Caddie Scholarships awarded annually.




Q. How does one apply for the Evans Scholarship?

A. Obtain an official Evans Scholarship application from the sponsoring club. Applications will be accepted from August 1 to September 30 prior to the start of the student's senior year.

In addition to the application, the following materials are required: a letter of recommendation from the sponsoring club signed by club officials, official transcript complete through the junior year, a letter of recommendation from the high school, candidate's essay, financial documentation including a copy of parents' most recent federal tax return, the Financial Aid Profile, and scores from the ACT with written portion.




Q. When is the Evans Scholarship awarded?

A. Most scholarships are awarded during the applicant's senior year in high school. Candidates who reach the finals in scholarship competition will be interviewed by the Selection Committee at Selection Meetings held between December and March.

Each finalist will be considered on the basis of overall record and financial need. Candidates are advised of the committee's decision promptly after their interview.
